IFFA (IMMANUEL'S FELLOWSHIP FOR ADULTS). "Iffa you come-you'll have fun!" Would you like to get to know some of the other members of Immanuel? When you see somebody you don't know, do you wonder if that is a visitor or a member who usually goes to a different service? Now is your chance! Let's get together… On Saturday, May 10, we will be taking a road trip to the Pierre Menard Home and Reid's Harvest House in Chester, IL. If you would like to go, please RSVP to Pastor and Cindy Troup (939-8379) by May 8. We will meet at Immanuel at 9:30am. (By the way, be sure to bring along enough money for lunch.) Pastor and Cindy are the hosts for this event. If you are interested in hosting the next event, please call the church office and let Lisa know.

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? Some have claimed that Lutherans don't talk much about the Holy Spirit. So, let's take some time to study the Holy Spirit in light of God's Word. Who is the Holy Spirit? How does He work in our individual lives? What does the Holy Spirit have to do with salvation? Come find out on Sunday mornings with Pastor Clark in the Overflow Room. The study is using "Good News" magazine. Also, Pastor Troup's study of the book of Matthew continues during the Education Hour in the basement kitchen.

DURING MAY & JUNE the Board of Social Ministry will be collecting food and household items from Hope Christian Church's Food Pantry. This Food Pantry serves all of Monroe County. The following is a list of items needed: peanut butter, jelly, pancake mix, syrup, spaghetti sauce, boxed cereals, soups, pasta, paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste, deodorants, shampoos, any cleaning products, laundry soap, and dish soap. No canned vegetables or Kleenex are needed. There is a barrel in the narthex for this collection.

TAKE A BREAK! Series 4 of the Ladies' Bible Study is meeting every Thursday at 7:00pm for six weeks. The book is Faith on the Edge: The Quest for Spirituality by Adam Francisco. It explores the Christian perspective on "spirituality", a word that is used often in today's society. It also spends time on popular trends in our culture to find "spirituality," including ESP, Wicca, and meditation. The group meets in the lower level of the Education Building; come through the lower back door. Newcomers are encouraged to attend even if you have missed a couple meetings! Call Lisa Clark, 939-7521, with questions.

GOD IS FOR YOU! Tim Nummela leads a fellowship Bible study on the CPH Lutheran Spirituality series book, Promise on Tuesdays at 7pm at Arby's in Waterloo for all non-married adults at Immanuel and in the community. Bring a friend! Please call the church office if you'd like more information.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are putting together a permanent Confirmation picture display of confirmation classes between 1912 and 2008. We need pictures for the following years: 1912-1942, 1944-1951, 1953, 1958, 1961-1974, 1976-1979, 1981, 1984-1985, 1987-1988, 1992-1994, 2000-2001, 2003, and 2005. Bring your pictures to the church office by May 1, and Lisa will scan the picture and give you back your original. Also, it would be very helpful if you would list the names (first and last), maiden name, by row on a piece of paper and tape it to the back of the photo or give it to Lisa. If you have questions, please contact Janet Crawford (939-3042) or Jenny Jung (939-6141). By the way, we are having trouble identifying some of the faces, please stop by the church office and have a look. We would appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks!

DID YOU EVER FEEL THAT YOU wanted to do more for others and the spread of the gospel, but you didn't feel like you had the time? Now there is a way! You can keep a mite box and fill it with your loose change or bills, return it to church and drop the coins and bills into the bigger mite box and then do it again as often as you can. The money collected is used by the Southern Illinois District LWML to fund mission work locally, nationally and abroad. Please consider this small task as a way to give back and help thers hear about our Lord and Savior. Mite boxes can be found in the church narthex.

CREATION & EVOLUTION. The Discovery and History channels on TV, the Zoo and Science Center in St. Louis, and most biology and geology textbooks assume that the world as we know it evolved over millions of years. Are science and the Bible at odds with each other? How can a Christian address questions about evolution and creation in a way that is scientific and also faithful to Scripture? Dr. David Menton will address these questions and more in a Creation/Evolution seminar on Sat., May 3, 2008, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church (612 N. State St.) in Freeburg, IL. The seminar begins at 10am and concludes at 4pm. Lunch is included. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP by April 28, please call Christ Our Savior (618-539-5664) or Leslie Sramek (618-972-6577).
